Waltham Forest Schools U-15 Cricket Cup Final - The Dongray Trophy
Highams Park 105-7, Leytonstone 104 all out
Highams Park won by four wickets
Highams Park U-15 cricket team were playing their last game of the season and were feeling confident to meet any challenge.
Jack Basset, Highams Park captain, won the toss and elected to bowl. Leytonstone attacked the bowling from the start and had laid the foundation for a really big score when they got to 91 for 2 after 18 overs. Highams Park hit back with fine bowling from Sammy Raja who dismissed the two most powerful batsmen in quick succession and Alfie Chapman who dismissed the last six Leytonstone batsmen in 4 over's of bamboozling spin. From 91-2 Leytonstone crashed to 104 all out.
Highams Park began their reply in disastrous fashion with three of their top batsman failing to worry the scorer. At 12-3 Jack Bassett joined Sami Sajid and they added 40 precious runs before they were dismissed in quick succession. With Humza Hussain also failing to score, Highams Park were back to square one on 58-6. Now William Russell was joined by Ollie Campbell and they added 30 in an increasingly tense atmosphere before Ollie was caught with Highams Park still 17 runs short. Matt Fairley now came in and added the necessary runs with William Russell.
William Russell had a great game taking a wicket, 3 catches and hitting 17 not out to secure the Highams Park first victory in this competition since 1994. He was only narrowly pipped for "Man of the Match" by Alfie Chapman whose 6 wickets for 7 runs was a world class performance.
