As part of the Modern Foreign Language Leader Award students have had to organise and run a language festival for younger learners.
Over the last few weeks students have put all their creative and organisational skills and ideas together to prepare a French afternoon for 57 Year 6 pupils from Handsworth Primary School. MFL leaders had to come up with ideas of activities to engage the pupils they welcomed at Highams Park. They also had to think about and complete a variety of tasks such as liaising with adults in the school to set up the hall, sorting out French music for the whole afternoon and dealing with outside companies to order all the resources needed.
On Thursday 1st July our MFL leaders put on an impressive afternoon involving the pupils in games and creative activities around the themes of animals and the environment. All pupils and their teams took part in a competition in which they had to create posters on different topics related to the environment; they were all helped by their MFL leaders. Leaders and pupils put in a lot of effort to create fantastic posters which will now be displayed in their school.
The MFL leaders showed a lot of commitment and enthusiasm in running the afternoon and in making sure their guests had a very enjoyable and educational time. The year 6 teachers also commented on the efficiency of the MFL leaders in encouraging some reluctant pupils to get involved and to enjoy the festival.
The afternoon finished with all leaders and pupils sharing a French afternoon snack and attendance certificates were given out.
Later on, Mr Davisson, Assistant Headteacher, was invited to select the winning display and medals were awarded to the winning team.
Congratulations to all our MFL leaders for organising such a successful afternoon for our future Year 7!
