Well done to Ellie Phillips 9G1, winner of the June Jack Petchey award - nominated by Ms Gardner, Kate Kelleher 9G1 ellie philips.jpgand selected by the School Council.

Achievements outside of school

Ellie has been roller skating for the past nine years. She trains four times a week and takes part in many competitions. In these competitions she has to dance either with her partner or on her own.  In total she has won 70 medals in a variety of different dance styles. Ellie has reached the top in age group 8-12 and now she has moved to the older age group, she is slowly working her way to the top of that age range. Roller skating competitions have taken her to many places in the UK, but she has also competed in the Italian Championships.

On Saturday mornings after training, Ellie teaches young learners and newcomers the competition routines. She is now starting to teach her own age group as well, passing on her experience at competing. Kate Kelleher 9G1

Achievements inside of school

Ellie is a positive member of 9G1; she is an extremely hard working and conscientious student. She is in all the top sets and her report grades are mostly 1's. She also takes part in house netball and belongs to the athletics club, competing in the hurdles races. Ellie has also joined in the dance club and performed in assembly. She takes part self-defence classes after school and has joined the new cheerleading club.  At the presentation evening in year 7 she was given 9 awards and achieved the same again in year 8. Ellie also is a main contributor to the now famous G1 Summer Fete, running a game and making cakes for the sale. Ms Gardner

The Jack Petchey Award scheme is a popular and widely used scheme. It started in East London and because of its success, the Trustees of the Foundation agreed to offer the programme to other London boroughs and West Essex. Over £1.5 million is allocated to this scheme each year. The picture below shows Jack Petchey in front of the newly opened Academy in Hackney that bears his name.

Each month participating youth clubs, schools, colleges etc. select ONE young person to receive an Achievement Award.

jpetchey.jpgThe month’s winner receives a framed certificate and a cheque (payable to theschool/college/club) to be spent on a school, club or community project of the recipient’s choice. Cheques, frames, certificates etc. are sent by the Jack Petchey Foundation to schools, clubs etc. twice a year.

Jack Petchey Leader Awards are linked to the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme. Any school or club  participating in  the Achievement Award Scheme can nominate one "Leader" per year.

Awards are given to adults who have demonstrated, in an outstanding way, an ability to encourage and motivate young people aged 11-25 in London or Essex.

The scheme is open to Youth Leaders, School Teachers, Community Leaders, Volunteer Leaders, Sports Coaches and any other adults who have regular contact with young people.
