Well done to Mohammed Amais Khan 6F3, winner of the March Jack Petchey award - nominated by Mr Steward and selected by the School Council.
With fifteen miles still to go he suffered knee ligament problems but got all the way home triumphantly. As a result of his persistence he was on crutches for a fortnight. Despite this, Mohammed only missed one day of school. An heroic effort. - Mr D Steward Mr J Davisson
The Jack Petchey Award scheme is a popular and widely used scheme. It started in East London and because of its success, the Trustees of the Foundation agreed to offer the programme to other London boroughs and West Essex. Over £1.5 million is allocated to this scheme each year. The picture below shows Jack Petchey in front of the newly opened Academy in Hackney that bears his name. Jack Petchey Leader Awards are linked to the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme. Any school or club participating in the Achievement Award Scheme can nominate one "Leader" per year. Awards are given to adults who have demonstrated, in an outstanding way, an ability to encourage and motivate young people aged 11-25 in London or Essex. The scheme is open to Youth Leaders, School Teachers, Community Leaders, Volunteer Leaders, Sports Coaches and any other adults who have regular contact with young people. For more information about the Jack Petchey award visit the Jack Petchey Foundation website. |
