During this week the normal timetable was set aside for five days and instead the school offered pupils a variety of challenges that they would not normally have a chance to experience. Some pupils took part in one of the six residential trips arranged for this week. The trips were to Germany and Poland, Holland, Paris, Devon, Pony Trekking in Wales, and Outdoor Education in Llandysul in South Wales. The Outdoor education trip saw some pupils achieve Duke of Edinburgh Bronze expedition awards. The experiences the pupils will have gained from these trips are immense and will certainly remain treasured memories for a long time.
Pupils could go to the London Music Museum take part in Business and Enterprise Projects, Film and Music, Landscape Painting and choose to go on a visit to either Wembley or the Emirates Stadium. Pupils could also take part in Theatre Train, Dynamic Groove African drumming and pay a visit to the Bug man.
These specialist days shared a common goal to promote team building by providing a number of structured events encouraging pupils to work together and understand their responsibilities to themselves and others.
During the week very successful courses were run in Peer Mentoring and UCAS Training for certain pupils. Our Year 10 pupils also undertook one of their Work Experience weeks. This has been a tremendously successful week, the pupils and staff have thoroughly enjoyed and learned from their experiences. We all look forward to Activities and Enrichment Week 2010 Below are some pictures from Activities and Enrichment Week 13th -17th July 2009.

P.E. staff organized smaller sessions in a variety of team sports not often experienced by pupils in the normal curriculum. Self-defence sessions were put on by experts from outside the school. The ICT department offered cartoon design and presentation. The technology department provided pupils with the opportunity to design and construct a Soma Cube, a CD/DVD rack make a key ring or construct a jewellery box. Food Technology offered pupils the chance to make sweets and decorate cakes. They also led sessions in creating cards and the making of bags. Pupils could also take part in a Ready, Steady Cook competition,Curry in a Hurry and Pizza Mania. Other crafts included Exploding Memory Boxes and Stuffed Jackets. The Art Department led pupils in Batik and Waxing.Salsa dancing was also on offer this year for the first time. This year we invited some year 6 pupils from neighbouring schools to share in our activities week.
On Friday the final day of Activities Week all pupils embarked on the 18 km sponsored school walk around Epping Forest to raise money for the school council's chosen charity, Haven House. The sponsored school walk, like all the activities laid on for pupils during this week embodied one of Highams Park School's key core values, which is for staff and pupils to work happily together to achieve a common goal. Have a look at the pictures from this event below.
