Thursday 8th May was a joyous occasion at Highams Park, when this year's Year 11 students staged their entertaining and polished Celebration Assembly.
Events were compered by Clive Ngoroge 11G1 and Jake Douglas 11P1, a very amusing pair who surely have a future as a stand-up double act. Ant and Dec eat your hearts out!
There was a vibrant festival of music, dancing, comedy and even a fashion show. The band Taken By Storm provided a lot of the music, playing some of their own numbers, accompanying 11G1's songstress Georgia Gerson on All These Things That I have Done and providing the backing for a storming version of Walk This Way, with Dylan Addo 11G1 and Thomas Poku 11G1 spitting out the Run DMC rap in front of the band.
There was a fashion show, with Textiles students, introduced by Miss Gardner, displaying a range of smart and glamorous designs in a spectacular promenade.
Mrs Diver also made a presentation to the girls' netball team, Zoe Kypri 11B2, Rebecca Moreton-Rowe, 11B2, Jodie Clayton 11B2, Kate Russell 11B1, Jodie Fenn and Hannah Cole (both 11F1) Lilly Pipe 11F2, Emma Durant 11P2 and Tram Nguyen 11P1, who got to fourth position in the National Cup, won the Waltham Forest Tournament and were league winners this season.
Zoe Kypri came on using her powerful voice for a beautiful rendition of Hometown Glory ; Tyrell Eze 11F2 amused with his version of the Shaggy classic It Wasn't Me, and Dylan Addo was back on stage with Mitchell Williams to display some high-octane street dance.
Another highlight was the performance of Craig Rodhouse 11P1, Jake Herga 11G1 and Luke Austin P1, who bravely took to the stage in pink tutus and lycra cycling shorts, amusing the audience no end with their unique dancing to Beyonce's Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).
There was a song from Jade Lestrade-Thomas 11G2 and Hayley Payze 11G2, and Joma Mohammadi 11G2 gave an interesting performance of a song in his own language from his native Afghanistan.
There was a slide presentation, a video from Mr Mehta's music class and a chance for the teachers to all make fools (or stars) of themselves in a video version of Queen's Don't Stop Me Now. See below.
The show ended with both of us paying tribute to the lovely year group we have had the pleasure to be in charge of for the last few years, and a presentation to all of our year group form tutors, who have been so helpful to us and so effective in their roles.
It was a great afternoon, put on by a great year group.
We wish them all the success that is due to them in their exams and in the coming years.
